Site Narrative:
The VIM Trailer Site is located within the North Industrial Corridor Site in Wichita, Kansas. The facility was used to manufacture and refurbish tanker trailers. Spent solvent was stored in a 12,000-gallon underground storage tank on the western side of the property. A hole was observed in the tank during its removal in 1993. Contaminants of concern include tetrachloroethene and its degradation products trichloroethene, cis-1,2-dichloroethene, and vinyl chloride, other solvents, as well as petroleum hydrocarbon-related chemicals.

In 2008, KDHE requested that the City of Wichita conduct a Comprehensive Investigation (CI) and prepare a Corrective Action Study (CAS) for the VIM Trailer Site. The initial phase of the CI was completed in September 2009, the second phase of the CI was conducted in early 2010, and the CI Report was approved by KDHE in September 2010.

KDHE reviewed the CAS and requested that the City conduct a pilot test of air sparging/soil vapor extraction (AS/SVE) pilot test before approval. The AS/SVE pilot test was initiated in fall 2020, and quarterly sampling was conducted for 2 years to evaluate effectiveness. An updated CAS was submitted in spring 2023 and is under KDHE review.
