Site Narrative:
The Tri-State North facility is located at the northeast corner of the intersection of Waterman and Commerce Streets, within Plume A of the larger Gilbert & Mosley Site. The site encompasses approximately 0.25 acres and formerly consisted of a 5000 sq. ft. brick building and a 2500 sq. ft. brick garage. Land use at the site is industrial and commercial. The site is underlain by alluvial sediments that extend to approximately 27 to 30 feet below ground surface. Ground water is present at a depth of approximately 15 feet below ground surface. Based on previous investigations in the site area, the Facility was determined to be a source of tetrachloroethene (PCE) contamination in soil and ground water. Ground water monitoring since 2002 has demonstrated generally decreasing concentrations in shallow ground water.

The City initiated a Comprehensive Investigation at the site in spring of 2007 in preparation for the Sedgwick County Arena project to delineate the extent and degree of soil contamination at the site. In the fall of 2007, an air sparge (AS)/soil vapor extraction (SVE) system was installed. It was upgraded in March 2008, with the addition of four new SVE wells and an upgradient monitoring well. In October 2008, a horizontal SVE well was installed. In January 2009, soil samples were collected to determine the effectiveness of the remediation system. Following review of the analytical data, the remediation system was shut down in January. A soil excavation work plan was submitted and in the spring of 2009, the approved soil excavation work plan was implemented.

Semi-annual monitoring results for Gilbert & Mosley wells located near the Site show decreasing values of both PCE and trichloroethene (TCE) which is a break-down product of PCE through 2015.

PCE and TCE are generally stable through 2018.
