Site Narrative:
The Aero Space Controls property has been identified as a source of soil and groundwater contamination in the North Industrial Corridor (NIC) site (see C2-087-70150). In May 2008, KDHE entered into a letter agreement with Aero Space Controls Corporation (ASC), the current owner of the property, and Teleflex Corporation, a previous owner of the property, to conduct soil and groundwater sampling at the site. The investigation was conducted in December 2008 and confirmed previous detections of chlorinated solvents in shallow soil and groundwater. An administrative order was issued to ASC on March 19, 2010, which requires the company to conduct a comprehensive investigation and corrective action study at the Site. The administrative order was appealed.

On March 2, 2012, KDHE and ASC signed a stipulation for dismissal without prejudice. Under the stipulation, ASC submitted to KDHE an Interim Remedial Measures (IRM) Work Plan to address TCE concentrations in soil by a soil removal action. The IRM Work Plan was approved by KDHE in June 2012, and the soil removal action was completed in September 2012. KDHE approved the IRM Report in November 2012. Performance groundwater monitoring at the Site has been ongoing since August 2012 to evaluate the effectiveness of the removal action. Groundwater sampling was conducted on a quarterly basis for the first year after the IRM, and is now being conducted on a semi-annual basis to determine its effectiveness.

After evaluating trends over last few years, KDHE determined that additional actions were necessary in the soil source area. KDHE approved the work plan for additional excavation and a liner/cap, and the work plan was implemented in July 2018. Groundwater sampling is being conducted semi-annually to evaluate the effectiveness.
