Site Narrative:
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were detected in a pair of nested monitoring wells as part of the Gilbert and Mosley quarterly sampling beginning in June 2003. The monitoring well pair was installed in February 2002 as compliance wells between Plumes A, B and E. Concentrations of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) increased until September 2004 to a maximum of 4400 micrograms per liter (µg/L). KDHE and the City of Wichita conducted a series of ground water sampling events to determine the source of VOC concentrations in the well pair. Significant concentrations were detected in sampling points on the Lorac property, while no concentrations were detected upgradient of the property. Additional sampling was conducted to attempt to define the down-gradient extent of the contamination.
In the summer of 2008, Lorac agreed to the terms of a KDHE letter agreement. They have retained Shaw Environmental to perform a site investigation. A limited site investigation commenced in July 2009.
The City of Wichita has taken over the remediation of the Site under the 1991 Consent Order for G&M. Consultant selected for additional investigation of source areas at site. The first phase of the CI/CAS was completed in March 2018. The second phase was performed in August 2018. |
