Site Narrative:
The 29th and Mead Site was identified during investigations conducted between 1983 and 1986 by KDHE in conjunction with the U.S. Geological Survey and was listed on the National Priorities List in February of 1990. In September 1989, a PRP group signed a Consent Agreement with KDHE to conduct a Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study (RI/FS). An investigation was conducted and a draft RI report was submitted; however, the investigation did not completely delineate the extent of contamination and the report was not approved by KDHE.
The 29th and Mead site has been incorporated into the larger North Industrial Corridor (NIC) Site by combining it with contiguous contaminated areas. In 1995, the City of Wichita signed Settlement Agreement 95-E-0321 to conduct the RI/FS and certain remedial actions to be determined for the NIC site. On April 29, 1996 the 29th and Mead site was deleted from the NPL by the U.S. EPA, with the understanding that the City of Wichita would complete the RI/FS, a Remedial Design, and Remedial Action for the NIC Site with KDHE oversight.
See the NIC Site - C2-087-70150 for additional information. |
