Site Narrative:
The drycleaner operated as One Hour Martinizing in Northgate Shopping Center from 1967 to 1987. Sold to Ineeda Cleaners in May 1987. Ineeda Cleaners operated as a dry cleaning facility until approx 2003, at which time Ineeda converted to a drop off store.
An Expanded Site Assessment was conducted in 1998 to delineate horizontal and vertical extent of PCE contamination. This resulted in a Soil Vapor Extraction system being installed with one interior and one exterior well. Later an Air Sparging system was installed to enhance remediation of the source area. System included additional SVE Wells to contain all sparge vapors. Groundwater monitoring later indicated that contamination was below EPA MCLs for several monitoring events. Causing the SVE/AAS system to be removed. After the decomissioning of the remedial system and since 2003, one well near the source area has had PCE detections above the MCL with downgradient wells consistently having detections below the EPA MCL. The site remains in semi-annual long-term monitoring.
In January 2019, source area excavation activities were performed at the Site following the November 2018 direct-push investigation that identified the approximate extent of source area soils exhibiting concentrations above KDHE RSK. The source area was located inside the former dry cleaners building. Approximately 124 cubic yards of impacted soils were removed. The excavation extended to 11.5 feet bgs at the deepest portion, the furthest the excavation equipment could reach. A total of six confirmation soil samples were collected from the finished excavation with laboratory analytical results indicating only the PCE concentration in the deep excavation floor sample (211 ug/kg) slightly exceeded KDHE RSK (121 ug/kg).
Long-term monitoring resumed at this site with the Fall 2020 event. |
