Site Narrative:
This site and was transferred to the State Cooperative Program (SCP) which now is overseeing project implementation.

A work plan for the Preliminary Investigation was approved by KDHE in late 2016; field work was completed in early 2017 and the draft report was submitted to KDHE for review. KDHE had several questions and technical comments regarding the data from this initial effort and conducted a meeting with CHS to discuss these data and the appropriate path forward.

A follow-up meeting discussing the path forward was conducted mid-October 2017. It was agreed that added hydrogeologic characterization was needed. A new Environmental Agreement addressing data gaps was signed September 4, 2018. A work plan for multiple Phased characterization was approved and Phases 1 and 2 field work have been completed; Conclusions from an evaluation of the data from the first 2 phases of field work notes that proposed third phase was not needed.

A Draft [Focused] Corrective Action Study (CAS) presenting proposed remedial alternatives was incorporated into the Draft CI Report submittal for KDHE review. Comments were provided to CHS and a meeting was conducted (3-7-21) to resolve these comments. CHS agreed to install one additional well to assess possible "off-site" LNAPL source intrusion. KDHE and CHS then participated in a subsequent meeting (3-27-2024) discussing the development and submittal of a Draft CAS (presumptive remedy) leading to the final remedial selection for the site that is protective of human health and the environment. KDHE provided comments on this Draft Focused CAS and after receiving a revised CAS fully addressing KDHE comments on this document, KDHE approved the revised and now Final Corrective Action Study on December 13, 2024. Since this time KDHE has expressed support for performing an Interim Action while also needing some added characterization along the eastern boundary of the site. Project stakeholders met in December 2025 to discuss a path forward that addresses KDHE's concern that contamination may have migrated to the east and off site.
