Bureau of Waste Management (BWM) inspected the Bjorgaard property following a complaint by the Leavenworth County Divison of Emergency Management (04/15/03). Several inspections conducted by BWM identified illegal waste at the site which includes: over 75 drums of unknown liquid, 20 buckets of unknown substances, empty containers of MEK, ~2,000 waste tires, 100 batteries, contaminated soil with lead as high as 3300 mg/kg and numerous other solid waste issues.

The property was referred to KDHE-Remedial Section to evaluate. Following a desk top evaluation, BER-RS recommended the site be referred to EPA for an EPA-Lead Removal. A letter and transfer form dated 11/13/03 was submitted to EPA officially transferring the site.
